Ace Morgan earned a reputation of being one of the best jet pilots and the most heavily decorated Air Force pilot in the Korean War. On the day of armistice, Morgan and Airman Hal Jordan were attacked by three Mig fighter planes.
The two survived and Morgan's high marks of Jordan propelled him to a purpose. A bit of a philosopher, Morgan served as a median between the conservative Colonel Flagg and the more liberal Hal Jordan, marking the transition of the times.
As part of a publicity stunt, Morgan was to fly a B-47 prototype out of Nellis Air Force Base cross country and pick up three other stars. The plane crashed in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The four later returned to the crash site and decided to form a group of adventurers called the Challengers of the Unknown.
In the final stand against the Centre, Hal Fordan and Ace Morgan flew into the Centre to release explosive payloads but were nearly overcome. Hal Jordan managed to activate the power ring bestowed by Abin Sur and saved the both of them.
