The Forever People are those who paid Jackson Alpert millions of dollars to undergo his upgrade process and have their human genome restructured to the point of evolution. They emerged at the height of mental and physical perfection and were gifted with flawless health, an extended lifespan, and enhanced abilities. It was Alpert's dream to free man of his limitations and birth a new kind of human being whose natural instincts would be to create a better world where all can live in harmony on a fertile and peaceful planet. The Forever People were signposts to the future. Alpert insisted his Forevertech would eventually become available to the masses like any piece of new technology. From the global headquarters of the Eternity Institute in Switzerland, Alpert held a rare international press event and introduced the first three Forever People. In the time that followed, a dozen more were transformed. Transformation Centers were opened in Paris, London, Mumbai, Moscow, and Hong Kong. Waiting lists swelled.
Anti-Forever People movements cropped up everywhere. Some factions demanded that all people -- not just the insanely wealthy few -- deserved a chance at transformation. Others claimed the entire process was an abomination and affront to God and man -- and it needed to be stopped. The riots started. A Holo-Golem of Alpert and a team of Forever People went around the world to end the violence peacefully and prove his benign intentions. Moonrider, Serifan, and Dreamer put down riots in Rio de Janeiro and Moscow effortlessly. Superman was naturally drawn to these Forever People. He sought out Batman's help to investigate Alpert while he ventured straight to the Eternity Institute. Batman agreed they weren't gods but thought they were. The difference with Superman was he was raised by poor, humble, decent people. Superman was greeted by Wonder Woman, Serifan, Dreamer, and Moonrider, whom he easily plowed through then surrendered to Alpert. Alpert welcomed him as a friend and introduced him to other Forever People. Superman didn't trust the Forever People but Wonder Woman held out some hope they would adjust to the new paradigm in time.
Alpert continued to manipulate the Forever People into paying out more for the next level in the upgrade process or their genes would turn toxic. He asked Superman and Wonder Woman to be their teachers and help them understand their new lives as meta-humans. Once Batman told them the truth about Alpert, they were all captured and remained unconscious for days. The Forever People set up floating citadels of their own across the world and quickly built up their own fiefdoms. They offered themselves as a more enlightened alternative to the governments of the world and their guidance would lead humanity to a higher destiny. Some accepted them as saviors. Pro-god and anti-god protests escalated into violence. Soon, the Forever People warred against each other over who would dominate the rest. Alpert knew he would still be in control no matter who won and lost interest in them, focusing on incorporating the DNA of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman into his Forever Formula and evolving himself past that of the Forevers.
One of the Forevers, Fastback, saw Alpert for what he was and released Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Bear won the war. The others went to Bear's citadel above Mumbai and at least pretended to accept his leadership. They gathered to map out the future of humanity. Superman and Wonder Woman interrupted the proceedings. Wonder Woman proposed they relocate to another planet so they would have time to grow into the fullness of their gifts then one day return to Earth to aid mankind. The Forevers were amused. Bear declared they were the endpoint of human evolution. Battle broke out on the citadel and in Mumbai after Superman incinerated Serifan. Batman arrived and innoculated Bear with an antidote to the Forever Formula. He and Superman went up to the citadel and took out the rest of the Forever People. They suffered atrophy and fell into a comatose state. Batman got an idea and they were gathered up and taken to the Eternity Institute, where they were placed in containment chambers. An international task force monitored and studied them. Due to the unstable nature of Batman's antidote, it could not be determined if and when they would awake. But they did revert back to normal humans eventually.
