The origins of the H.I.V.E. Five date back to a trio of advanced students enrolled at the H.I.V.E. Academy. Gizmo, Jinx, and Mammoth graduated at the same time and remained as a team. After being defeated by the Teen Titans, they were re-enrolled and took classes under the tutelage of Brother Blood. However, after constant defeat and destruction, the status of the H.I.V.E. Academy was in question. The trio struck out on their own and formed their own super villain team, the H.I.V.E. Five with classmates, See More and Private Hive. Based in Jump City, they committed mainly petty theft. In a strange turn, the team was briefly under the spell of Mother Mae Eye and her delicious pies.
A year later, the team resurfaced with two new members and a new agenda. Jinx, Gizmo, Mammoth, Billy Numerous, See More, and Kyd Wykkyd make up the second roster with Jinx as the leader. Despite having six members, the name of the team was kept the same. Unconcerned with reputation, the Five were defeated on a routine basis but most of the crew enjoyed their freedom from a larger organization's control. Jinx, however, wanted to have the team inducted into the Brotherhood of Evil. She tried to capture Kid Flash and turn him over to the Brotherhood to accomplish that. However, Kid Flash escaped his prison cell and led the team on a chase throughout their secret headquarters' many rooms including a power plant, workshop, garage, and private quarters. Eventually, the H.I.V.E. Five minus Jinx joined the Brotherhood and were frozen in the final battle against the Teen Titans.
