A boy genius took the code name, Gizmo, and enrolled in the H.I.V.E. Academy for Extraordinary Young People. His only intellectual equal is that of Cyborg, but unlike him, Gizmo is arrogant and selfish. Along with Jinx and Mammoth, he was one of the Academy's latest graduates. The H.I.V.E. Headmistress sold their services to Slade, who dispatched them to fight the Teen Titans. The Titans soon returned the favor and took back their Tower. Robin used a device that hacked into Gizmo's technology and neutralized him. After being bailed out of prison by the Headmistress, Gizmo and his co-horts were re-enrolled into the Academy. On the side, Gizmo freelanced and committed petty theft and grand theft auto. In one instance, he stole the stolen T-Car from a pair of third-rate thieves and went on a crime spree before crashing into a prison transport holding Overload. In the end, the villains were rounded up and sent to jail.
Months later, the Master of Games teleported several heroes to an alternate dimension to determine who was the best of them all. For some reason, Gizmo was taken, too. He lost the first round against his rival, Cyborg, and was absorbed by the Master. In the aftermath, Robin and Cyborg made everyone honorary Titans, except Gizmo. Months later, Gizmo was less than charmed when a new student named Stone, and Bumblebee, became the new top students and favorites of the new headmaster, Brother Blood. Stone even was invited into the inner circle of Gizmo, Jinx, and Mammoth, despite Gizmo's opinion of him. After the Teen Titans destroyed the H.I.V.E. base, it appears that many of the students, including Gizmo, went solo. While playing an illegal download of Mega Monkey's 4, for the Gamestation, Gizmo was recruited to help cure Cyborg from a viral infection. He agreed to help after Raven convinced him. Using his personal shrink suit, Gizmo entered Cyborg's blood stream but ended up in his butt, instead. Despite his objections, Gizmo teamed up with Beast Boy and sought out the core of the EndZone Virus. After his anti-virus program failed, Gizmo raced to activate his failsafe but was attacked by drones and forgotten by the Titans.
Some time later, Gizmo formed the H.I.V.E. Five group with Jinx, Mammoth, See More, and Private Hive. While they attacked a shopping mall complex, they encountered the Titans, who were under the control of Mother Mae Eye and heavily clothed in garments. However, Mae Eye quickly defeated the Five and returned the Titans home. Soon after, a pie was delivered to the Five's headquarters and they fell under Mother Mae Eye's spell. Almost a year later, Gizmo and the rest of the Five were recruited to the Brotherhood of Evil. Upon further analysis, the Brotherhood retracted their invite to the Five, who seemed to be more interested in petty crime and lacked the discipline to operate on their terms. During a museum bust, the group was easily beat by a mysterious hero that turned out to be Kid Flash. Later on, while at Cook's Electronics, Gizmo was defeated again by Flash. Eventually, the Five caught him but after a discussion with Madame Rouge, Jinx ordered Gizmo to quickly construct a Level 4 Containment Field to hold Kid Flash with. Although such a feat challenged even Gizmo's skills, he built one in record time in the Five's workshop.
Soon after, Gizmo was in the outskirts of Jump City only to encounter Starfire and Raven at a gas station. After Starfire revealed her and Raven's plight, Gizmo sent out a signal to all villains to join him in a race to win a briefcase stolen from Robin by Ding Dong Daddy. Luckily, the veritable wild card known as Red X defeated the villains to return a favor to Robin. Gizmo and the rest of the Five minus Jinx were allowed to join the Brotherhood, in time for their final scheme to destroy the Teen Titans. Gizmo and Billy Numerous were sent to Sector 13 to capture Kole and Gnarrk. The duo failed and returned to the Brotherhood's Paris base empty handed. In the battle between them and the Teen Titans, Gizmo was one of many villains cryogenically frozen by Mas y Menos.
Gizmo and Jinx accepted a free invitation to a Space House in a parallel universe and was unknowingly collected by that universe's Brainiac. They helped destroy the Skull Ship.
