In the 21st century, the National Biotech Authority commissioned the creation of a team of operatives named the Hoop Squad. Only those with the right mix of skills an strength were selected, all-star athletes from the National Basketball Association (NBA). The recruits would wear bio-enhancer suits that would emulate their top skill as a super power and carry out secret missions that preserved global peace and stability. Tracy McGrady, Karl Malone, Steve Nash, and Yao Ming were chosen for the current roster. During the All-Star Games, the Hoop Squad encountered Static and Gear while tracking an NBA defector named Dr. Odium. They are one of the select few who knows Static and Gear's secret identities and vice-versa.
