Real Identity: Commissioner James Worthington "Jim" Gordon

A Special Forces veteran, Jim Gordon started a family in Chicago and earned the reputation of being an honest cop in an otherwise corrupt department. After 15 years, he was transferred to Gotham City. At first, Gordon resented that Batman single handedly stopped crime and captured criminals more times than the whole department.
Eventually, he realized that he and Batman were fighting for the same goal of cleaning up Gotham. Gordon soon rose up the ranks and became Commissioner. He opted to keep his relationship with Batman private yet the rooftop of GCPD headquarters is home to a Klieg searchlight with a painted Bat emblem.
GCPD rounded up ex-engineer Harry Lieter who murdered his mother and shot at policemen. Unable to interrogate him, Gordon allowed John Jones a chance but quickly signed off when a federal agency arrived to take Lieter into custody.
