Spainiards came across an arid basin but discovered underground wells that supported meadows. They named it Las Vegas. When it fell into US control, it became a famous railroad town in the 1900's. The completion of the Hoover Dam in 1936, sparked the rapid growth of the Las Vegas Strip and casino-hotels. The money generated from tourism is accompanied by the federal government who established Nellis Air Force Base.
Despite its global fame, Las Vegas isn't invulnerable too the influx of super villains. One one occassion, Captain Cold attempted a daring theft but was stopped by the Flash. His cyrogenic bombs detonated safely in the sky and mimiced snowfall for the population's delight.
