The League of Shadows is a criminal organization specializing in assassination, kidnapping, extortion, and security. While their origins are kept secret, it is known the organization is founded and led by Ra's Al Ghul and managed by the Sensei. It tends to employ skilled assassins and warriors. One of the Shadows' known bases is Infinity Island, located somewhere in the Eastern Carribean Time zone. At the start of training, all Shadows of the League are subjected to a pre-programmed failsafe hypnotic suggestion to obey whatever Ra's Al Ghul orders.
Affiliated with the Light, the Shadows carried out various assignments on its behalf; assassinate chief officers of companies who did business with Project Cadmus and to extract raw data from S.T.A.R. Labs and WayneTech. A contingent of Shadows was assigned to accompany the Brain and Ultra-Humanite to Bwunda. They acted as security and helped capture a troop of gorillas for experimentation. Years later, they kidnapped Dr. Serling Roquette and forced her to create a new weapon, the Utility Fog, to achieve their goal. While one member, Professor Ojo, carried out the mission; Cheshire, Black Spider, and the Hook were reassigned to Happy Harbor, Rhode Island to prevent Dr. Roquette from uploading a virus to counteract the Fog. However, the Team was involved and prevented the assassination. In the end, Professor Ojo, Hook, and Black Spider were captured.
On August 19th, the League assisted Ra's Al Ghul, Talia Al Ghul, and Ubu in Cape Canaveral. In September, Ra's Al Ghul tasked the League with creating further strife between the nations of North and South Rhelasia. During a peace summit in Taipei, Cheshire failed to assassinate an arbitrator brought to help, Lex Luthor. Sportsmaster was brought into liberate Cheshire from police custody and help complete the mission. Red Arrow and Aqualad unknowingly played their roles in bringing the two countries together and under the influence of LexCorp and the Light. On December 4th, Black Spider carried out orders to assassinate Bernell Jones in Star City. Green Arrow and Artemis intervened. On December 25th, 20:02 Eastern European Time (EET), Team Year Two, Red Arrow realized Cheshire was his best hope for infiltrating the League of Shadows in order to get close to the Light and find Speedy.
In Team Year Three, Cheshire convinced Sensei Red Arrow had gone rogue and operated as a freelancer. As part of a League mission, Cheshire and Red Arrow chaperoned a shipment of LexCorp tech to Bialya. On May 26th, Team Year Four, Red Arrow's cover was blown and Cheshire betrayed the League to save his life. After barely escaping with their lives, they moved through Fort-De-France.
In February Team Year Five, the Shadows was dispatched to Olympia, Athens, and Verhoyansk to take part on Light operations focusing on locating fragments of the Tiamat statue. On February 17th, 07:15 Eastern European Time (EET), Alpha Squad came upon several Shadow ninja supervised by Cheshire at Dr. Sandsmark's dig site near Olympia. As they pushed further, Alpha also encountered Shadow elites armed with two long swords each. In Verhoyansk, Shadows in winter gear were armed with guns or with pulse rifles capable of slowing down even Superboy temporarily.
On December 1st, Team Year Five, a squad from the League accompanied Queen Bee to Metropolis. At 18:03 Eastern Standard Time (EST), they had Noor Harjavti and Bibbo Bibbowski in their custody. The two were replaced by Kroloteans in robot duplicates. On June 19th, Team Year Six, the League of Shadows lay in wait above the summit on Santa Prisca in case they were needed. However, several Shadows were neutralized and their places were taken by Blue Beetle, Beast Boy, Lagoon Boy, Impulse, Robin, and Wonder Girl. When the Team arrived, the League of Shadows were activated and ordered to kill. They were taken out by the Team.
