A forest ranger named Roy Harper died while trying to save a Navajo medicine chief named Brave Bow. Out of respect, Brave Bow raised Will's baby boy, Roy Junior. Harper was trained and excelled in running and archery. He began to follow the exploits of Green Arrow. While Green Arrow was in Harper's hometown, he stopped a bank robbery with his quick thinking. Green Arrow nicknamed him "Speedy."
The 14 year old was orphaned again when Brave Bow died. Oliver Queen decided to adopt Harper and eventually revealed his secret and offered Harper to become his partner. He accepted as Speedy. Speedy eventually helped found the Teen Titans.
