Ivy Town physicist, Ray Palmer believed he was about to make a fantastic break through in the field of matter reduction. By chance, he encountered a piece of white dwarf star matter. But during nature outing, Palmer and his friends were trapped in a cave. Using a lens, the matter and a diamond engagement ring, he shrunk himself and saved his friends. Afterwards, the process of reduction was still flawed in his experiments. The problem always happened after reduction. Matter integreity became unstable and led destabalization. The atoms within began to generate pressure and cause an implosion. Nonetheless, Palmer graced the cover of the journal, Scientific American.
Batman deduced that Palmer's imperfect device would be the perfect weapon against the Centre. However, they would need to navigate the surface of the Centre and expose it piece by piece. That task fell upon the Flash.
