Four Allied Soldiers during World War II had suffered serious losses in each of their careers. Captain Storm's first mission was sunk by an Axis Japanese submarine. Johnny Cloud lost several comrades in flight. Gunner Wilson and Sarge witnessed their band killed off on their first patrol. The four teamed up to take down a Nazi radar tower and stayed together ever since. With two years of distinguished combat in every theatre of war, they were drafted into a unique special operations unit dubbed the Losers.

In the final days of the war, the Nazis were defeated. The Allied Forces wasted no time and began to locate and appropriate the leading scientists enlisted by Hitler. One scientist, Dieter Teschner, was so important to America's post war plans, he was secretly transported through the Pacific theatre by the OSS. However, the plane carrying the scientist and the unit suddenly went missing near an island. The Losers were dispatched to rescue them in Operation Four Horsemen.

The Losers found themselves on Dinosaur Island and fought its namesake. Gunner Wilson, 23 years old, of the US Marine Corps, was the first to go when a Tyrannosaurus Rex attacked them. Captain Storm, US Navy, and Sarge Petersen, US Marine Corps, soon followed. Lieutenant Johnny Cloud, US Air Force, was of Navajo background. The number four was a fundamental motif to their culture. As each member dies, the spiritual foundation of the group crumbles. Cloud ultimately found the downed plane's ranking officer, Colonel Flagg. Luckily, Flagg had Dr. Teschner's notes on film.

Flagg went alone while Cloud confronted the dinosaurs that claimed his comrades' lives. Cloud and the unit's pet dog Pooch were wounded by one of Flagg's booby traps. Undaunted, Cloud took two grenades and leapt into the Tyrannosaurus Rex' mouth. Flagg sent a rescue party in coordination with the Challengers of the Unknown and discovered a message left by Cloud in a formerly occupied cavern.
