Team Seven is a paramilitary unit within the government agency Checkmate. For years, Team Seven's specialty has been "cleanup duty" protecting the United States of America from the shadows. Several days before Christmas, Team Seven was dispatched to retrieve the Amazo robot in Metropolis. It was neutralized by Agent DuBois and taken to Mt. Simonson Base. Five days before Christmas, Slade Wilson "commended" DuBois on Team Seven getting to join the big boys and girls and taking over the base from Task Force X. He advised him to enjoy it while he could. DuBois stated he was going to enjoy watching Wilson squirm as he handed over the base, he was going to enjoy his duty, and most all, watching Checkmate lose faith in Task Force X. Dr. Killgrave and his team of scientists prodded Amazo and caused it great pain. They were at a loss how Dr. Ivo built its A.I. or why its absorption mechanics worked differently than the prototype Parasite suits. Wilson detonated several explosives and rocked the base. DuBois deduced General Amanda Waller went with brute force to sabotage Team Seven and make them look weak in front of Checkmate.
Agent DuBois and Wilson's battle spilled over into the room where Amazo was being held. He saw Amazo and Clark Kent and reckoned he now had to two messes to fix. Jimmy Olsen managed to relocate several explosives onto the tower that was generating the Red Sun Omega Field. Wilson triggered them thinking they would blow up his exit but the tower was blown up and the field went down. DuBois ordered all units to fall back and repair the red sun field. He then activated the White Pawn Override program in Amazo. It acknowledged the command. DuBois ordered it to target all non-Team Seven members. It charged Wilson despite its desire not to hurt anyone. Wilson dodged its slash. With the field down, Clark Kent's powers returned and he ran Lois Lane outside with super speed. He went back for Amazo and pointed out they had no idea how its A.I. worked and it was stronger than their program. DuBois ordered Amazo to finish its mission. Amazo grabbed his laser rifle, blasted a hole in the ceiling, and flew out. Team Seven arrested Kent for treason against the United States of America.
DuBois returned to Kent's cell and noticed Kent was flustered. Kent lied that he did cardio while he waited, believing it kept his heart healthy. DuBois thought it was odd but informed him he was free to go. He claimed he didn't have time to entertain a fluff-story journalist then warned Kent to be careful not to cross paths with them or Superman's again. DuBois ordered a detail placed on Kent just in case he really was collaborating with Superman. He had all other units head to the Metropolis Bay Bridge to find Amazo. A short time later, unit beta radioed in. They reported Clark Kent went back to the Daily Planet, just sat at his desk staring at his computer screen mumbling about needing to write something, and was currently lecturing a co-worker about pie but she didn't appear to be liking it. DuBois ordered them to pull back to Bay Bridge. He concluded Kent was acting on his own misguided moral code at the base.
DuBois also initiated preparations for Superman, as well. He donned a special suit of armor that stores parts of his weapons in a compressed form all over it. He hailed Killgrave and asked him if he was ready to redeem his department. Killgrave pointed out he wouldn't be here without his technology. He traced Amazo to the middle of the bridge in the middle lane. Superman arrived and wanted to know what was going on. DuBois stated he was not The General or Amanda Waller. Instead of mindlessly reacting, he analyzed a situation and drew his own conclusions. Superman asked him what he concluded. DuBois stated he thought Superman was a weapon with no direction that was an annoyance but now was a threat. Superman countered with Team Seven's experimentation on Amazo. DuBois revealed he would be appalled if it was a person being experimented on but Amazo was technology no more alive than a computer. He wondered what sort of people Kryptonians were to create a computer that could feel pain. He stated there was a threat on the bridge, a robot made of alien technology.
DuBois formed a gun and shot Superman. The impact sent Superman crashing into a big rig truck. Team Seven soldiers opened fire on him. Superman tried to tell them stop because of all the civilians around in their cars. DuBois stated while no human-made bullet could pierce Superman's skin, physics still applied to him. Superman was knocked by the gunshot again. Superman punched the gun apart and countered DuBois was the only danger to human lives on the bridge. DuBois disagreed and pointed out the damage Amazo did so far. Superman repeated Amazo was a person. DuBois reiterated it was a weapon, a gun made by an alien race and it didn't matter what the gun wanted, when all it can do is destroy. A larger gun was formed and blasted Superman off the bridge. Damaged vertical suspenders snapped and the bridge started to collapse. DuBois was directed to Kent's van. He opened fire but no one was in it. DuBois ordered all units to the streets around the bay. All units reported back with no sightings. Killgrave confirmed they lost sight of Amazo and Superman. DuBois ordered them to sweep again then search every inch of Metropolis. He threw his helmet off in frustration.
A Checkmate operative reviewed the incident to DuBois: Team Seven had the Amazo-tech robot, it broke out in front of the press, and DuBois did nothing. DuBois pointed out they were sabotaged by Task Force X. The operative noted Slade Wilson did not show up on security footage. DuBois contended Task Force X must have erased themselves from it. The operative was not interested in excuses from those on the front line. DuBois was given 24 hours to get the robot back and reminded him of the consequences of failure for him and for the planet. DuBois donned the Angel Array and tracked Amazo to Area 52. He opened fire on the X-T 00 Robot being ridden by Wilson. DuBois sarcastically apologized for interrupting then told Wilson to call Waller back to remind her she's been replaced. Wilson chided him for coming alone in an attempt to impress Checkmate. DuBois stated he didn't need back up because he didn't bring a sword to a gunfight. He invoked his armor's name and "Death By A Thousand Cuts" out loud. Several explosive shots were fired at the robots.
Wilson dodged them and continued to heckle DuBois for focusing on him. DuBois stated Dr. Killgrave had eyes on Amazo, pointed out his life would improve and Waller's standing would fall with Wilson's death, and invoked a Black Wing Sweep. Amazo stepped in front of Wilson and defended him with a steel door. Amazo refused to let his family get hurt on Christmas. DuBois was taken aback by his statement then used Bloodsport and fired. Superman countered it with his heat vision. He fired Bloodsport again but Superman lent his strength to Amazo and they both used heat vision to force both sides to retreat. DuBois ordered Team Seven to his location but Amazo set off explosions after he was wounded by Wilson. Several helicopters and planes, including modified Bell AH-IZ Vipers, Boeing EA Growlers, and McDonnell Douglas Hornets, were dispatched. Jimmy Olsen used Area 52's old security system to destroy their missiles before they could clear the area.
DuBois ordered the deployment of Project Orion without authorization from Checkmate. Orion appeared above DuBois, Superman, and Amazo. DuBois ordered Agent Cash to fire on his command. Superman pleaded with DuBois since the blast would take out Metropolis. DuBois went on a rant claiming it was worth the trade off to end the threat forever and he would go down in history as the one who took down Nemesis Omega - the one Waller and Task Force X mocked would be the hero the Earth deserved. DuBois was told over the radio that Orion would wipe out all populated sectors within a thousand-mile radius of Metropolis. He stomped his walkie-talkie and declared it was time to end the farce. Amazo pushed Orion into space and absorbed it as a terminal malfunction triggered a self-destruct. DuBois was captured by Task Force X. Waller and Agents Damage and Atomic Skull escorted him to Mt. Simonson Base.
