My Adventures With Superman Season 1 News

  • May 19, 2021: A new Superman animated series titled "My Adventures with Superman" is coming to HBO Max and Cartoon Network. It is an all-new kids and family animated series with action, comedy, and romance starring Superman and Lois Lane. It has a two season order. Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and their best friend Jimmy Olsen are 20-somethings who are bright and driven and discover who they are and what they accomplish as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet. It is a serialized coming-of-age story as well as Clark builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as hero of Metropolis and perhaps the world. Lane takes the aspiring photographer Jimmy under her wing. Clark and Lois are falling in love all the while. Jack Quaid voices Clark/Superman and Alice Lee voices Lois. Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher will co-executive produce and Josie Campbell will co-produce. First look at Clark, Lois, and Jimmy and logo. Deadline Article

  • September 2, 2022: Interview with Josie Campbell. The series is definitely still coming out to Cartoon Network and HBO Max in 2023. Clark, Lois, and Jimmy are in their very early 20s and meet as interns at the Daily Planet. The series doesn't start with them as fully realized characters and it's a story about growth. It is very much influenced by the 1978 Superman movie with Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve, specifically the Lois & Clark dynamic, which is something they wanted to replicate for the series. Lois is a fast-talker and is reckless so gets them into trouble, similar to the Fleischer cartoons. There's love and respect between her and Clark. Clark is a mild-mannered intern who finds freedom by becoming Superman. When they pitched the show they apparently called it a "rom-com with punching" with the Lois & Clark relationship as the basis for the show. There will be a lot of fun villains they're pulling in from all over the DC Universe, from Superman: The Animated Series, and from Superman comics. It's action-packed with a lot of fun fight scenes but at the heart of it, it's a story about the friendship between Clark, Lois and Jimmy; plus Clark and Lois falling in love and carving out their identities as they go. It's for kids and slightly older audience; the goal is for every member of the family to be interested in watching the show. The Comics Cube YouTube, 47:50-55 mark

  • August 28, 2023: 63 minute interview with Josie Campbell. Campbell confirms Livewire is basically the first metahuman, credits the influence of John Byrne, how she outnerded the staff with her comic book knowledge, they always wanted to start small with Superman's powers and add more and more as they go to tie into the theme of him unlocking a power because he's trying to save someone, he has suppressed his powers for a long time after discovering he could fly and the ship activating, he is now accepting he can be extraordinary after trying to be normal, the blue surge is a nod to Superman Blue, from the start they didn't want Superman to understand Jor-El because it wouldn't make sense he would know English and create a disconnect with Clark's heritage and being the ultimate immigrant, at first the crew thought DC had Kryptonese fully developed but Mike Carlin informed them it wasn't so Campbell used a bit of Esperanto with something else like Hebrew, Korean, Spanish and changed the articles, they wrote the lines in English then in the final pass Campbell would do like a Mad Lib and switching out words to create enough dissonance for Clark and the audience, the various executives pitched to all loved Mallah and Brain, Campbell loved Grant Morrison's run on Mallah and Brain and talking gorillas and Olsen would be so Silver Age, thinks them meeting another weird outsider like Superman changed them, on thinking there's only one Mxyztplk in the multiverse but looks different on each universe and on this show he would look anime-inspired, the divergence of Vicki and Lois being the latter can't hurt people to get the article, there wasn't any point where the Superman suit wasn't having the trunks but there was debate on when it would appear, Kris Anka's development art that everyone liked was one that looked Kryptonian and things Ma added on, credits Jessica Zammit for the Sailor Moon reference with Clark's transformation into Superman and Diana Hu referencing Pretty Cure, the evil Superman trope was to challenge Clark emotionally and to bring it as his greatest fear of what people see him as, designers and Clogher came up with the idea of exposure to Kryptonite to be anaphylactic shock meets Cordyceps fungus, cites the change in genders, ethnicities, and orientation to be reflect reality in the City of Tomorrow, have future seasons figured out but not a third isn't confirmed, isn't sure if there will be a Blu-ray or other merchandise yet, Lois and Jimmy being in on Clark's secret identity early on was important during the pitches, show how smart Lois was, expand on the relationship, allow the characters to grow into a team, fed into the theme of secrets and lies, and having to do what feels right with shorter seasons and not knowing if there will be more seasons, and the bulletproof line in "My Adventures with Mad Science" was from the writer's room and was in the outline. • May 23, 2024: -There's some twists in Kara's story and some twists of how the show is presenting her. Clark and Kara classically have different relationships to Krypton and that will be a lot of fun M. Willis, one of the writers, made Jor-El sassy and Jason Marnocha made his snarky, too. Krypton is more complex than Clark decided it was at the middle of season one and Brainiac is going to enlighten him a whole bunch about that. There's a way in which Clark and Lois get a look at another version of Superman but it's distinct from what they saw in season one and there is a look at other possible outcomes and other takes on Superman, but not in the way that was done in season one. Lois and Clark are going to have big turning points. There's kind of a Lois-centric episode. A lot of the back half is very Clark/Superman-centric. Jimmy is getting his moments to shine, especially in the middle of the season. The middle is the big turning point, though, from episode four, the story starts to turn, the characters start to get challenged in ways they weren't in season one. The challenge runs Jimmy, Lois, Clark and then back again! Season two is testing their bonds of love and friendship. Season two is fun and very emotional but it puts Clark, Lois, and Jimmy through the wringer in every way. It's not just physical challenges, but their emotional journeys and their emotional arcs are really at the forefront. Screenrant Article

  • June 10, 2024: Sari Cooper posts notes from "Two Lanes Diverged". The idea for the flashback came in January 2022 to build on the "wilderness survival weekend" mention in "Adventures with Mad Science", answer why she and Sam are estranged, how Lois came to be the way she is, and how that all influences her relationship with Clark. Sam purposefully loses Lois in the woods and she has to find her way out by herself but at first she doesn't know he left her on purpose. The third flashback is when she is 18. First flashback entailed mom abandoning her, second family abandonment, and third dad abandoning her. It's a pattern of abandonment, disappointment, self-suffiency, and not being taught to express emotion in a healthy way. It was meant to show Lois finally accepting her dad is never going to be there the way he was supposed to be, he had been hurting her all along, she couldn't pretend he was ever going to change, and she can only rely on herself. Campbell confirms the Bio-Electrical Aura was inspired by All-Star Superman and Brendan Clogher came up with the new take on the Freeze Breath. Supergirl as an antagonist was part of the show's original pitch. There is more to come with the Metallo robots. Jimmy becoming rich was a nod to a Silver Age comic where he was a millionaire one issue, the next wearing a bucket held up by suspenders. There will be more delving into Lois' feelings of inferioority and Clark's fear of rejection. Campbell laughs at a question about if we will see Superman using his abilities at an apex and hints to keep watching. Superman Homepage Article

  • June 24, 2024: Jake Wyatt, Ishmel Sahid and Kiana Madeira AMA. Kiana Madeira's first audition was a recording she did on the phone while she was in Barcelona traveling. She got a Zoom callback with the producers. About a week later, she got a call that she booked the role of Kara. The Thought Projector in "The Machine Who Would Be Empire" was inspired by the Tenchi Muyo anime. Kara's storyline was Brenda Clogher's idea and inspired by Vegeta from Dragon Ball. Mongol has been on the idea board for every season so far. Wyatt calls season 2 episode 9 the most challenging episode he wrote so far and hints they took a big swing with a lot of concepts while serving several different character arcs. The interior of the Fortress of Solitude will be seen. The producers wanted Kara to be sort of like an Elseworlds or What If version of Superman: to examine the struggle of isolation from different set of circumstances. The "kneel" line at the end of season one was intended to deliberately mislead the audience but in general for Brainiac, it's a power thing and his way of reversing the pecking order. • March 7, 2024: There will be a tie-in comic book mini-series that serves as a bridge between season one and two. The first issue is written by series producer Josie Campbell with art by Pablo M. Collar. The first issue releases on June 4, 2024 in comic book shops and online. Clark spends Christmas alone in Metropolis but gets a tip about a monster in the sewers so Superman, Lois, and Jimmy investigate. They learn the monster can absorb anything it touches. It was originally a story talked about in the writers room but there was no space for it in season one. Campbell teases romance, comedy, super-powers, Jimmy talking a lot about how super-rich he is, and all the goodness of the show are bundled into the mini-series. Pre-orders start March 15. Main cover is by Carli Squiteri with variant covers by Gavin Guidry and Riley Rossmo as well as a blank sketch variant cover. Squiteri and Guidry's covers are previewed. WF Article

  • May 20, 2024: Interview with Josie Campbell. They approached Amazo the same way as approaching villains on the show with questions like "what do we best remember them for," "where we kind of change them a little bit and modernize them," "do we make sure we still retain the core essense of who that chaacter is," and "Or do we deepen the character in some specific way that makes us like them and see a whole new facet to them?" He is a runaway robot that looks like Parasite. Some Task Force X characters are appearing as well as new ones designed by Pablo M. Collar. Another big Superman villain is appearing. Maybe a little bit of Ma and Pa Kent. The intent is not to spoil anything for season two but make it feel complimentary. Some emotional beats in season 2 will make a bit more sense if one reads the comic such as how Lois goes from point A at the end of season 1 to point B at the start of season 2. A bit more backstory and background about Kryptonians revealed will enchance what is going on in season 2. Will get into the nitty gritty of Clark's emotional trauma and his relationship with Lois which will continue into season 2. Games Radar Article
