The Brothers Djinn are five vile ghouls named Calythos, Uthool, Nyorlath, Abnegazar, and Rath. They once ruled the foul and ancient newly formed Earth in prehistoric times. The Brothers Djinn were defeated by the Wizard Shazam and his champion Adam. They were petrified and imprisoned within the walls of the Rock of Eternity. Centuries later, Black Adam usurped the Wizard and freed the Brothers to unleash a new era of woe upon the Earth. Calythos attempted to steal the powers of super heroes by absorbing Parasite in order to summon a volcano powerful enough to cover the world in magma and restore the primitive Earth. He failed after absorbing Martian Manhunter's powers and weakness to fire. Uthool possessed Batman and attempted to drive the Hall of Justice's power core to critical mass in order to generate an explosion large enough to shatter the Earth's mantle and bring the underworld to the surface. Wonder Woman used the very core on him and freed Batman.
Nyorlath, Abnegazar, and Rath flew to Calythos' second volcano to reopen the fissure with an incantation. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman raced after them but Nyorlath cast a spell that took their powers away temporarily. Batman activated his distress call. Constantine opened a portal and gave them passage to his House of Mystery to regroup. The Brothers entered the volcano and chanted together, reopening the fissure. The Justice League went with Green Arrow's plan and swapped costumes to confuse the Brothers. Somehow, it worked and the Brothers were defeated but Black Adam emerged from the reopened fissure. It turned out The Wizard imprisoned Adam in the core of prehistoric Earth.
Once Batman returned with Shazam, Black Adam blasted the Brothers Djinn with his lightning and turned them into giant beasts. Batman and Green Arrow knocked Abengazar into the lava but it emerged unharmed. Batman used freeze pellets on him then he and Arrow nudged him into a portal opened by Constantine. Wonder Woman socked Nyorlath and Constantine moved a portal so he passed through. Plastic Man and Swamp Thing used the former as a slingshot and fired Rath. Constantine moved the portal again. The League immobilized Adam together then Superman and Shazam punched him in unison. Constantine moved the portal in Adam's path. With the Brothers Djinn and Adam defeated for good, the volcano was used as the base for the League's new headquarters, the Watchtower.
