In the future, Sinestro united the most vile murderers and deviants in the universe. They were the ones that could instill fear and bring about a new order of peace that Sinestro came to believe the Green Lantern Corps could not establish. The chosen were taken to Qward for psychological and physical reconditioning. When the Sinestro Corps was populated, they initiated a war of light. Scores of Green Lanterns would be killed and the Guardians of the Universe defeated then skinned alive and eaten by Sinestro's followers. Atrocitus saw this in a vision and retold it to Abin Sur. Abin Sur did not believe the tale but told it to Sinestro who told it to Arisia.
