Sinestro was born on the planet Korugar and grew to become a fearless warrior. His aptitudes made Sinestro a prime candidate for the Green Lantern Corps. As a Green Lantern, he was assigned Space Sector 1417. On the first day of training, Sinestro mistook Abin Sur for someone from Korugar. They became best friends and later teamed up to stop a civil war on Korugar. Unlike Sur, Sinestro does not believe in destiny. Sinestro served for years and became one of four with the highest seniority and was revered as a paragon of the Corps.
Atrocitus, of the Five Inversions, predicted that Sinestro would unite the most vile murderers and deviants of the universe into a corps of fear. They would participate in a war of light and kill off the Green Lantern Corps and Guardians of the Universe. Sinestro's throne on Oa would be built with their bones. Abin Sur was told this prophecy and believed Sinestro was destined for far greater things. Sinestro, too, was told this story and believed the Green Lantern Corps was too galvanized and bound in trust to fall. He later told this story to Arisia during Krona's impending return.
