The original Bat-signal was used by Commissioner Gordon in Gotham City to alert Batman of a crime that required his aid. Because of the pollution in the city, the signal could be projected perfectly. In Metropolis, Batgirl learned the hard way her special Bat-signal flashlight failed to project since the city was cleaner than Gotham. During a sudden eclipse caused by dark clouds, Batgirl brought her new Bat-signal projector into an alley to light the way through Metropolis and find Catwoman's army of feral cats. Green Lantern and Zatanna flew in search of Wonder Woman and saw the Bat-signal projected on some cats. Batgirl looked up and shined it on them, happy to see them. Batgirl later used the Bat-signal on the Metropolis High School roof to light the way for Zatanna and Bumblebee's return.
