Griffins are creatures of myth known to have the features of several animals like the body of a lion and wings and head of an eagle. Several reside on Themyscira. Hippolyta sent Diana Prince a griffin egg. She named him "Steve" and discovered he had a sweet tooth and proclivity to attack small animals like hamsters and birds, big fish like a marlin, and gigantic monsters. She soon discovered a Griffin's growth was much more accelerated than a normal animal and lacked discipline unless there was a big fight taking place. Within a few days, it was a full grown adult male and sprouted his wings. Together, they defeated a Hydra then sealed it back into its prison. However, she noticed Steve was sadly pawing at the window. She knew what she had to do.
Wonder Woman rowed a boat to Themyscira with Steve. He was excited about the ride. After clearing a fog, they made land fall. She ordered him to come to her on the beach, Themyscira was where he belonged. She admitted it was selfish of her to force him to do as she wished, rather than what was right for him. He hopped off the boat and nudged at her while purring. She stroked her beak and opened a cooler full of ice cream bars. Steve was elated and started eating. Wonder Woman left in her boat. Her spirits rose when she sighted Steve flying with other Griffins. She bid Steve farewell and stated no matter the distance between their worlds, he shall always be a good boy. He watched her from a ledge then took off back into the sky.
