The Riddler was one of Gotham City's most devious villains. He is infamous for leaving clues behind that hint at his next crime. He eventually abandoned Gotham for Metropolis but still drew Batman and Robin's attention. One night, he broke into a jewelry store but police officers thought it was just a standard break-in. Batgirl went over the crime scene. She suspected it was the work of a master criminal rather than a run-of-the-mill jewel thief. Bumblebee asked how she was so sure. Batgirl turned on her special flashlight and found a clue on a wall that Riddler left behind about his next crime. She got excited and asked her what it meant one of Gotham's most devious villains being in Metropolis. Bumblebee guessed that meant their city was going down the tubes. Batgirl declared Batman wouldn't be far behind. Bumblebee was perplexed by Riddler's M.O. but Batgirl read the clue, "What is always on its way here, but never arrives?" She quickly figured out the answer was "tomorrow" and it all meant Riddler was planning to steal the prototype of a Thera-Magnetic Wave Generator from the Metropolis Museum's World of Tomorrow science exhibit.

Bumblebee was confused how she got all that from one riddle. Batgirl presented her copy of Batman's book, "You Got All That From One Riddle?: Cracking The Code of a Criminal Mind." She schemed to catch Riddler to get Batman's attention. The Riddler broke into the Metropolis Museum and used a glass cutter to steal the Thera-Magnetic Wave Generator. He couldn't wait to see it on the black market. Batgirl threw a batarang at the case. Riddler mistook her for Batman, tossed the generator, and tried to run but she threw a bola at his legs. Batgirl tried grunting like Batman but Riddler couldn't understand her. She finally spoke in her regular voice and repeated he had run out of time. Robin threw out a line and snagged Riddler, claiming he caught the villain even though he only happened to be looking for his favorite Super Pig comic book he lost during a field trip that day. While they argued and talked to Batman, Riddler slipped away.

Some time later, Batman presented Riddler's latest clue, "What has branches and leaves but no bark?" Robin guessed a dog then a tree then a silent dog tree. Batgirl stated the answer was a library and realized Riddler was planning to steal the Ancient Volume of Puzzles on display at the Metropolis Library's Antiquities Room. Riddler found the Ancient Volume of Puzzles inside and gloated about how easy it was. Batgirl shined a spotlight on him from the skylight then Batman leaped down. Riddler gasped and ran down an aisle. It was a ploy and he revealed he placed bombs all over the library to cover his escape by asking, "Put an "A" in front of my name and I'm awful. But put a "D-A" before it, and I can do no wrong! What is my name?" Batman and Batgirl pretended to be scared then took one step forward in unison. Riddler kept bluffing. They took another step. Riddler realized his hands were stuck to the book. Batgirl revealed they swapped the real Ancient Volume of Puzzles with a fake coated in Bat-Glue. Batman ripped his detonator away and muttered something. Riddler refused to go back to Arkham Asylum.

Suddenly Robin swung towards them. Riddler sidestepped him as he hit a wall. Robin tried to take the book but got stuck to it, too. Batman was miffed and yanked Robin off with all this might. He was launched back and landed on Batgirl. Riddler ran for it and escaped. Riddler put another clue on several crates in an old warehouse then moved the crates around. Batman and Batgirl investigated a tip and entered the warehouse. Batman shined Batgirl's special flashlight around and discovered Riddler's clues on several crates. Batgirl realized the crates were moved recently and Riddler left them a jumble. They rearranged the crates and found the clue, "To steal a king's treasure, I must first steal the job of gasoline. How shall I proceed?" Batgirl figured out the answer was cargo and Riddler was planning to steal the king of Markovia's treasure while it was being transported across town the next night via cargo truck.

Riddler came up through a manhole and put a hole into the truck while it was at a red light. He chuckled at how he was going to spend the treasure. Batgirl startled him but he was annoyed upon realizing it was Batgirl again. He admitted he was perplexed to see Batgirl already tied up. Over comms, Batgirl pretended Riddler got the jump on her. Robin cut a hole in the roof and jumped in and asked Riddler his own riddle, "Who is a bozo?" Before Riddler could guess, Robin punched him out just as Batman opened the back up. Riddler was turned over to the police.
