The Cyber-Animals are a line of unmanned robotics produced by Bumbershoot Mechanics with the intent to conduct exploration and retrieval missions, the preservation and restoration of the natural world. Envisioned by the Penguin as mankind's ecological salvation, a means to right the wrongs brought upon the environment and restore a harmonious balance with nature. Inspired by mother nature's perfect designs, each Cyber-Animal takes a cue from a specific mammal. The Blade Wolf was devised for retrieval missions like digged into collapsed mines and saving trapped miners. The Tiger Claw could handle oil refinery fires. The Fire Bat could save animals from being illegally hunted. The three models were engineered by zoologist Dr. Kirk Langstrom. The three Cyber-Animals were secretly used to help the Animilitia spread 12 force field transmitters around the Aviary and if necessary, provide back up. The Penguin debuted the Cyber-Animals at the grand opening gala of the Aviary and promised there were more to come.

As protection from intrusion, Langstrom rerouted the higher functions through to a secondary artificial intelligence. Increased current flow allowed for superior speed and strength. Their parts are also interchangeable. Per Penguin's request, each Cyber-Animal broadcasts and receives a specific dual vibrational transmission. In reality, the Penguin's true plans for them were to excavate Gotham City for the gold core of the Midas Heart asteroid after he altered its path and crashed it upon the city. Nightwing and Green Arrow exploited their weakness to high voltage attacks while the Flash revealed their inability to slow down from high speeds as quickly as he could. However, in Batman's custody, he and his allies were unable to hack the robots. With Langstrom's help, they were able to. Unaware of the hack, Penguin summoned the three back to join the rest of the mass produced Cyber-Animals in the Aviary. After Batman walked right past the force field, Penguin ordered Silverback to dispatch every Cyber-Animal on him.

The hacked models came to the heroes' aid. Batman, Nightwing, and Green Arrow battled the Cyber-Animals while Flash took the field down with the hacked Tiger Claw. With the field gone, Red Robin finished uploading a computer virus that knocked every Cyber-Animal offline. They utilized several Cyber-Animal parts in an ad hoc plan to raise a force field around Gotham City and save it from the Midas Heart. Batman kept the hacked Blade Wolf, named Ace, while Red Robin hung onto the hacked Fire Bat. Batman later created the CybeRex after generating it in an artificial landscape to battle stolen artificial intelligence and stop the upload of Joker's Digital Laughing Virus worldwide.
