Zor-El and Alura are the parents of Kara Zor-El, later known as Supergirl, who lived on Argo near Krypton. While visiting friends in Kandor, the Zor-El family narrowly escaped as the city was taken by Brainiac. Zor-El and Alura were among those who worked to find Brainiac and try to rescue Kandor. Fearing Brainiac would return, they sent Kara to Earth to be with her cousin Kal-El. As predicted, Brainiac was attracted to the use of his technology and returned to take Argo as well. Zor-El came to conclude Brainiac's bottled cities were perversions of the originals because controlling a living thing destroys what makes it alive in the first place. Knowledge always increased and changed. Over 30 years later, Zor-El and Alura met their nephew Superman. Over a meal, they informed Superman what they knew about Brainiac. A short time later, they were reunited with Kara Zor-El on a new home planet.
