Kandor is the capital city of the planet Krypton, one of the most technologically advanced civilizations. Brainiac invaded the city with its probes. As it downloaded the city's knowledge, certain Kryptonians were spared and those deemed redundant were killed. After the city was taken away by Brainiac, scientists worked to gather intelligence on the being in an effort to rescue Kandor. Zor-El and Alura sent their daughter Kara to Earth in fear of Brainiac ever returning. The activity caught Brainiac's attention and he later deposited several Argo City denizens into Kandor. For over 30 years, they lived on without aging. Superman took the city from Brainiac's ship and placed it in his Fortress of Solitude. Brainiac wanted Kandor back at first but Superman and Supergirl's continued resistance forced him to forego it in place of already having its knowledge and taking Superman as specimen. Superman figured out how to restore Kandor to normal and relocated it to a habitable planet he knew of with a red sun.
