Superman's Starship first started out as a lifeboat. Knowing Krypton reached its natural end, the scientist Jor-El launched the starship with his infant son Kal-El inside to the planet Earth. It was discovered by Jonathan and Martha Kent in Smallville and kept hidden for some time until their adopted son was old enough. As Superman, he later retrofitted the ship for space travel when needed. In a bid to find Brainiac, Superman took the starship to Larroo by scanning for Brainiac's communication signal. Superman and the starship were confiscated by the Bio Shell. The computers scanned the starship's guidance system and discovered the location of Earth. Superman managed to board the starship with Kandor and return home.
