In 1200 BC, the Amazons were created by five Olympian goddesses in order to spread their teachings of equality, justice and harmony. These 3000 women built Amazonia in Greece and their capital city Themyscira flourished under the rule of Queen Hippolyta. Determined to conquer the Amazon women, Heracles assembled a vast army. Hippolyta defeated Heracles but with deciet, obtained her magic girdle and enslaved the Amazons. Hippolyta appealed to the goddess Aphrodite who decided to intervene. In return, the Amazons would have to leave Man's world and establish their own nation and would have to wear heavy bracelets as a reminder of their legacy.
After a grand voyage, the Amazons settled on Paradise Island and rebuilt their society. As long as they stayed on the island with Aphrodite's girdle, the Amazons were immortals. Athena also bestowed the Magic Sphere to them. With it, they could view images of the past, present and future. They crafted an advanced society with unrivaled technology. Some time later, Hippolyta's daughter Diana decided to be the envoy to help defeat the Axis Powers. In a tournament to decide this person, Diana defeated her friend Mala and became Wonder Woman.
Following the Cambodia incident, Wonder Woman returned to Paradise Island and received an odd welcome from her people. All the intrigue of her exploits vanished when the Centre passed through the island and decimated the Amazons.
