When the great city state Themyscira was destroyed by Heracles, the Amazons were immortalized and told to sail away to a new home. They landed in the hidden Paradise Island. It was renamed Themyscira but was referred to interchangeablely. The Amazons recreated their city and lived in peace and harmony, away from Man's World.
