The Guardians of the Universe sought to bring order. They created a police force called the Green Lantern Corps and assigned two Green Lanterns to each of the 3600 known space sectors. The Guardians crafted power rings that were attuned to its owner's will power. The rings give the power of flight, a life support force field, information database, universal translator and most importantly to generate hard light constructs of virtually anything imaginable. The rings can only hold a full charge for 24 hours. The Green Lantern uses his or her personal power battery to recharge it. The battery is then connected to the Central Power Battery located on Corps headquarters, planet Oa. Since the process of recharging is not automatic, most Green Lanterns recite the Corps Oath to reaffirm themselves. A built in flaw renders the rings powerless against the yellow spectrum. No Green Lantern can become too powerful and unstoppable with this weakness.
