Tom Curry was an ordinary lighthouse keeper. That changed when he fell in love with Atlanna, an outcast from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. They had a son together who they named Arthur. Arthur Curry soon discovered he had above average swimming abilities and could even telepathically communicate with sea life. He also discovered he had to have contact with the ocean every hour or he would not survive.
Curry decided he would be the defender of the sea and named himself Aquaman. In his adventures, he encountered his people, the Atlanteans. The Atlanteans realized Aquaman was the son of Atlanna and was voted to become their next king after the former died and had no heirs.
With the coming of the Centre, Aquaman decided to mobilize sea life to help defend the planet. Amid the battle, Aquaman recovered a weakened Superman. In the aftermath, Aquaman surfaced in an Atlantean vessel at Cape Canaveral, Florida and reunited Superman with his allies. Aquaman went on to become a founding member of the Justice League of America.
