Smallville is a rural town in Kansas located well away from Metropolis. It is where the Kent family farm is located and where Kal-El was raised. During a battle with Gorilla Grodd and Titano, Superman zoomed out of the city past Smallville to the Fortress of Solitude. Pa Kent happened to be working on a tractor and greeted Superman. He soon zoomed past on his way back to Metropolis. Pa bid him goodbye and continued working. Superman and Supergirl helped with relief and evacuation efforts during a bout of twisters. They reversed the current of one and dissipated it. They smelled Ma Kent's famous blueberry pie. Supergirl returned a lost cow to the Henderson dairy then met Superman at the Kent Farm. As they basked in the calories on the porch, Supergirl asked him if he ever wondered about how different life would be if they weren't raised in Smallville. Superman believed no matter where they grew up, everyone has a little Smallville in them. Supergirl found him supercorny but seconded it.
Mr. Mxyzptlk suddenly manifested as a television set and decided to examine the case of nature vs. nuture with them as the test subjects then warped reality so that Superman grew up in Kasnia and Supergirl grew up in Hollywood. The Kasnian People's Republic continued their invasion of the United States and headed west to Smallville. Superman used his heat vision to write Kasnia over Kansas on the welcome sign. As Superman and Supergirl battled, Booster Gold unexpectedly returned from the Vanishing Point outside the space-time continuum and helped unravel the massive manipulation. After Superman tricked Mxyzptlk into saying his name backwards, reality was restored to normal. Supergirl and Superman were back on the Kent Farm porch. They reaffirmed they loved each other. Superman noticed Booster ate the rest of their pie. He faked an urgent call and teleported away. Supergirl asked her question again but Superman quickly responded with a "nope."
