On the night of a mystic eclipse called the Crimson Moon, zombies controlled by Solomon Grundy converged on New Orleans. They spread the effects of the Star of the Dead and converted living humans into zombies. S.W.A.T. was dispatched but they were zombified as well. A band and a mother with her infant ran away but ended up in a dead end alley. Swamp Thing saved them. The infant cried at the sight of Swamp Thing. He remarked he didn't miss humanity. After Grundy placed the Star in the hands of a statue in the City of the Dead cemetery, an energy wave soon spread from it. People in the city were instantly turned. Swamp Thing swiped the Star from the statue and destroyed it. The people of New Orleans returned to normal. Batman, Zatanna, and Swamp Thing observed the festivities in New Orleans afterwards. Zatanna inquired if Swamp Thing were more human than he'd care to admit. After seeing the infant happy with the fireworks, Swamp Thing replied maybe he was. A jester on the shoulders of another jester kissed Swamp Thing as she passed by.
