The City of the Dead is an above-ground cemetery outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. According to legend, if the Star of the Dead is placed in the hands of a certain statue in the City on the night of Crimson Moon - the Star's power will encompass the entire planet and turn every human into a zombie. On the night of the Crimson Moon, Solomon Grundy procured the Star and made his way to the City. He commanded zombies within the City to push the front gate down. Batman confronted Grundy but he was pinned under a slab. Swamp Thing and Zatanna came to his aid but Grundy succeeded in securing the Star. After the Star's energy wave was emitted, Swamp Thing removed the Star with a tendril and destroyed it. Grundy attacked Swamp Thing in anger but he was decked with a boulder and Batman froze him.
