The Spider Gauntlet is an alien artifact containing an astronomical amount of energy. At some point, a key-shaped component was used to lock the gauntlet and keep it in an inert state. Through some means, the gauntlet ended up in the possession of the Justice League. Batman preferred to study it in the Watchtower but Lobo heard of its location and devised a plot to the Justice League and Red Lantern Corps against each other while he stole it. While they were distracted, Lobo reactivated the gauntlet with the key, forming a glove over his right hand. He easily blasted everyone out of the Watchtower. The League and Lanterns were forced to work together against their common enemy. On Batman's cue, Dex-Starr unleased a powerful hairball construct and knocked the gauntlet off Lobo.
