Red Kryptonite is a variant that induces intense anger in Superman. While trying to transmutate Metallo's Green Kryptonite power source into lead, Firestorm couldn't remember the exact chemical formula and changed it into Red Kryptonite. Superman's eyes turned red and in a fit of rage, he tackled Metallo into a bus and set off a small explosion. Firestorm tried again but turned the Red Kryptonite into a Gold one.
