The Miniaturization Cannon is the main component of Brainiac's campaign of shrinking cities and destroying planets across the known universe. Metropolis was chosen as the 10,000th city to be taken. Plastic Man attempted to sabotage the robot operators but they eventually opened fire on him. With most of the consoles fried, Plastic Man couldn't stop the cannon or fly the ship away. He chose to make the ultimate sacrifice and entered the cannon to force it to overload and detonate. He survived, recovered the bottled cities, and floated down to Metropolis. The cannon's destruction triggered the annihilation of Brainiac's space ship.
