The Kryptonian Prism is one of the only remains of Krypton that didn't turn into Krypotnite after the planet's demise. S.T.A.R. Labs was able to procure the prism for study. It was discovered the prism acted as a gateway between the physical plane and the Phantom Zone. After Zod escaped the zone, he headed to S.T.A.R. Labs and stole the prism. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman intervened. Batman used the Phantom Zone Projector but Zod held out the prism. Zod was rendered intangible and followed them to the Watchtower. The energy given off by the prism started to affect them and they began to phase out of existence. Zod rendered himself tangible after Booster set off the Phantom Zone Projector then fired it on the prism. Faora and Quex-Ul were freed. Booster could see Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman through the prism. Batman told him not to panic and he had one more plan to try. Booster begged Zod to send him to the Phantom Zone so he could be with his friends. Zod obliged him and fired the projector.
Booster held out the prism and restored Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman to normal but he was trapped in their place. After Zod, Faora, and Quex were sent back to the zone, Batman picked up thep prism. Superman and Wonder Woman congratulated him on his bravery and timing but held off on freeing him.
