Ace is Batman's pet dog. Like Batman, Ace wears a bat cowl to protect his secret identity. Batman left Ace behind at the Justice League Watchtower as a precaution while he, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Flash left to check on the Fortress of Solitude. As he anticipated, Joker and Lex Luthor invaded the Watchtower. Ace managed to bite off a piece off the rear of Joker's pants before they fled. After the League returned, Ace put down the cloth and sat. Batman congratulated him with a 'well done' then Ace responded with a nod and wagged his tail.
