Parasite is a superhuman leech and criminal. He can drain the life force and any super power from his victims by use of tendrils that come out of his abdomen. He is an enemy of Superman, whom he often regards as the "main course." While imprisoned at Stryker's Island Penitentiary, Parasite started draining roaches of their energy in order to regain his strength. The staff realized what he was doing and sent out a distress call. Superman responded and confronted Parasite in his cell. Naturaly, Parasite attacked but Superman used his super breath to blow him into the railing outside his cell. Parasite was caught off guard and lassoed by Wonder Woman. She launched him into the ceiling and knocked him out. The Metropolis Police Department put him in restraints and loaded him into a police van for transfer. Calythos of the Brothers Djinn coveted Parasite for his powers and crashed point blank into the van. He integrated Parasite into his body and gained his absorption ability.
Calythos used it to take Superman and Wonder Woman's power in order to raise a volcano powerful enough to wipe out the planet and restore it to his primitive glory. They suspected Calythos would also take on his victim's weakness just like Parasite so they recruited Martian Manhunter's help. Calythos ironically succombed to the Martian weakness to fire. He released Parasite. Superman drew Calythos' flaming schimitar on Parasite immediately. He surrendered and was placed in a cryogenic tube aboard the Justice League's Justice-1 ship.
