Mr. Mxyzptlk is an alien imp from the Fifth Dimension with powers beyond understanding and a pathological desire to create mischief. He often targted "lower lifeforms" like Superman and the Justice League. They would always figure out a way to trick Mr. Mxyzptlk into saying his name backwards, "Kltpzyxm". This act banished Mxyzptlk back to his home dimension for 90 days. On one occassion, he gave Superman a chicken head. Mxyzptlk teleported to the grounds of the United Nations Building to protest the swift end to Gorilla Grodd's latest scheme. Stargirl remarked he was cute but had no idea who he was. Mxyzptlk was irritated and gave Superman and Batman mustaches and Supergirl a beard. Batman's assessment of him further annoyed him. Mxyztplk corrected Batman and stated he created mischief, not chaos. He turned the flagpoles keeping Grodd and his army prison into giant bananas. He then took Stargirl's wordplay of his name to heart. He stole the minds of Batman, Superman, and Stargirl then mixed them up in a blender. Batman's mind went into Stargirl's body, Stargirl into Superman's and Superman into Batman's.
Mxyzptlk was thoroughly amused by their misguided attempt to try and stop Grodd's army. Superman suggested they deal with Mxyzptlk. Stargirl stated they needed back up then named Firestorm especially. Batman misinterpreted what she meant and summoned Bravo Squad. Firestorm, Flash, Shazam, Martian Manhunter, Plastic Man, Zatanna, and Cyborg arrived. Mxyzptlk was red with anger and refused to let them spoil his fun. He conjured The Big Wheel of Body Switching then switched their minds, too. Mxyzptlk mused he could do it for millennia and sat on a green couch with a joystick. As Batman deduced, Professor Stein's mind made its way into Mxyzptlk's. Stein assessed his inappropriate laughing as a symptom of hypomania. Mxyzptlk ordered him to get out of his head and swiped at him in vain. Stein theorized he had anthropophomania, fear of other people, then hallunologophogomania, fear of complex scientific terminology, then "Kltpzyxm." Mxyzptlk went on a rant declaring he didn't have any of those fears then realized Stein tricked him into saying his name backwards. He vanished and the League was restored to normal. They defeated Grodd soon after.
Mr. Mxyzptlk happened to teleport to Metropolis at the same time as when Felix Faust attacked it with an ancient army of knights. He was intrigued with Bily Batson's Uncle Dudley. He was amused when Dudley cheered on Shazam and imitated his moves. Mxyzptlk decided to turn Dudley into his latest pawn. After Batson left his RV, Dudley noticed a strange glow coming from the bathroom. Mxyzptlk rose from the toilet in a wizard costume and pretended to be the Wizard. Mxyzptlk made him believe he chose to give him abilities with his own magic word for having the heart of a hero. He gave him the word "Bamboozle." Dudley was transformed into Captain Bamboozle. He exclaimed "Holy guacamole!" and guacamole rained down. Mxyzptlk could hardly contain himself. He tried "holy chips" and chips rained down. Captain Bamboozle went on patrol and caused more harm than good. He uprooted a tree and shook it to get a pet cat back to its owner. He wrecked on apartment on fire by flooding it with water from a roof top pool.
During a bank robbery, Shazam was shocked to learn the Wizard gave Dudley powers. Dudley described the Wizard to Batman and he drew a sketch on a tablet. He deduced it was Mr. Mxyzptlk wearing a fake beard. Shazam quickly briefed him about the imp and his weakness. Mxyzptlk enlarged a kitten to giant size and let it loose on the city to induce Dudley to cause more damage. Dudley got an idea. Rather than fight the kitten, he did crowd control. Mxyzptlk was infuriated and ordered him to use his powers. Dudley liked the idea and stated he was use his food power then muscle power then finish it off with his incredible power of Ktlpzyxm. Mxyzptlk fell for it and asked what Ktlpzyxm was. He realized he said his name backwards and was banished back to his home dimension. Dudley watched as his powers and costume disappeared. Shazam congratulated him on outsmarting the imp. Batman also congratulated him and presented the kitten.
Mr. Mxyzptlk observed Superman and Supergirl talking about nature vs. nuture in terms of their upbringing in Krypton. He manifested an old television set on the Kent Farm porch then narrated. Superman couldn't believe he was back. Mxyzptlk reset reality so that Superman grew up in Kasnia and Supergirl grew up in Hollywood. He disguised himself as Kara Zor-El's high powered Hollywood agent. The invading Kasnian forces ruined Zor-El's red carpet premiere much to his delight. She gave Morty her trenchcoat and earrings then flew off to face Superman and teach him to stay out of her spotlight. Superman finished draping Kasnian banners over the Daily Planet. Supergirl nailed him with heat vision then he used super breath and charged. She clotheslined him then twirled him into the pavement with a pole. He grabbed hold and swung her into the pavement then hit her with a flying punch. She rose up through the pavement with him in tow. Booster Gold arrived from the Vanishing Point outside the space-time continuum and was bewildered at the new present.
Booster tossed his apple core and hit Mxyzptlk. He was smitten with the imp but Mxyzptlk could care less who he was. Supergirl sliced a thrown car in half with heat vision then Superman fired his own. Booster made a force sphere between them and asked why they were fighting each other. Superman threw her into a car. Booster pointed out she was his cousin. Superman was surprised. Booster continued and explained they were from Krypton by way of Kansas. He realized it was all just a trick caused by Mxyzptlk and saw through his disguise despite Supergirl not. Mxyzptlk admitted Booster outsmarted him, revealed his true form, then dropped the Daily Planet globe on top of Booster. Just before he could reset reality again, Superman tricked him with a fake Kasnian phrase. Mxyzptlk understood the language but didn't understand one word: Kltpzyxm. He realized he was tricked into saying his name backwards and was banished back to the Fifth Dimension. Reality was restored back to normal.
