The Red Lantern Corps are a very vicious world conquering group of aliens who have joined together to declare war on the Guardians of the Universe and Green Lantern Corps. According to the Book of Rage, the Guardians of the Universe promised peace and order in exchange for worship and allegiance. When they were refused, the Guardians unleashed the soul less Manhunters to exact their wrath and massacre all. Atrocitus of the Five Inversions formed the Red Lantern Corps and sought out those wronged like him. They have murdered Green Lanterns and destroyed worlds in their quest for righteous vengeance.
The oath of the Red Lantern Corps is "With blood and rage of crimson red, We fill men's souls with darkest dread, And twist your minds to pain and hate, We'll burn you whole that is your fate!" During the siege of Betrassus, Bleez, Skallox, and Veon were dispatched to aid Prince Ragnar. In the final battle, their rings were neutralized by the energy emitted from a prototype power battery aboard the Interceptor. Bleez, Veon, and Skallox were sent ahead of the armada to find the code that would activate the Lighthouse and allow the Corps safe passage to Guardian Space. Atrocitus tortured the code out of Byth Rok but he adopted a secondary plan and blew a path through the Maelstrom after Jordan's group destroyed the Lighthouse. Jordan, Kilowog, and Razer were left stranded to face the coming armada while Atrocitus set off for Oa in the Interceptor.
While Jordan and Razer left for Zamaron, Kilowog stayed behind to hold off the Red Lantern Corps. He was joined by Saint Walker and Mogo. Together, they crippled the entire armada. Meanwhile, Jordan defeated Atrocitus in combat. Zilius Zox took command of the Red Lanterns and agreed to end the invasion in return for restitution and help rebuilding the Forgotten Zone. As a symbol of the start of rebuilding, Shard was reunited with the planet Ysmault. A peace treaty would be signed and an alliance forged. Zox, now Prime Magistrate, schemed to capitulate while the Red Lanterns rebuilt their strength. However, the reactivation of a Manhunter threatened the fragile peace. Things became worse when the Anti-Monitor and his army of Manhunters arrived in the Forgotten Zone.
