Jimmy Olsen is an employee at the Daily Planet and was selected for Mayor Sackett and Dr. Faulkner's "super hero club" at S.T.A.R. Labs. He was unknowingly given turtle DNA and a super power. He discovered he could transform into a towering being with skin similar to a turtle. He called himself Giant Turtle Boy. As Batgirl, Bumblebee, Ivy, and Lane stepped outside S.T.A.R. Labs following their response to the thirteenth floor explosion, Mayor Sackett greeted them with Ron Troupe and Jimmy Olsen from the Daily Planet. He wanted a photo op. Olsen took the photo. The next day, Jimmy Olsen went to see Dr. Faulkner. While waiting for the elevator, he ran into Sackett, Bumblebee, and Supergirl. Sackett told him to go back to the Daily Planet and take care of that "thing." Outside of the Planet, Olsen turned into Giant Turtle Boy and stopped a purse snatcher. However, the victim was annoyed he broke the strap on the purse. He offered to duct tape it but she walked away. Turtle Boy went into an alley to change back in secret.

Lois Lane saw the heroic act and tried to ask the Turtle Boy for an interview but he was gone. Olsen ran into Lane and greeted her. He claimed he didn't see anyone. Lane revealed she was going to the Planet with a story about S.T.A.R. Labs because she needed to get the truth out as fast as she could. Troupe was impressed and knew it could be really explosive for the story. Olsen started repeating things Mayor Sackett told him like what people didn't know wouldn't hurt them. Lane countered the public needed to to be able to make informed decisions. Olsen suggested it was up to people like reporters to make sure everyone else was doing what was best for them and controlling the news so people don't waste their time worrying. Lane was upset at the mention of Sackett but Plastique arrived and took everyone hostage so her story would be told. Olsen hid behind the editor desk and panicked. After it was resolved, Perry White happened to return. Olsen confessed he let Mayor Sackett talk him into publishing things that weren't true.
