According to Greek legend, the Shield of Ares grants its bearer invulnerability in battle. Three precautions were devised to neutralize the Shield: the Golden Olive Branch, the Amulet of Harmonia, and a display of Philia or Love of Friendship. In present times, Strife stole the Shield from the Louvre in Paris after she stole the Golden Olive Branch from the British Museum. She left Batgirl, Beast Boy, and Katana to be arrested for the theft. Strife arrived on Mount Olympus and gave it to Ares. With it, Ares went back on his promise to never attack Princess Diana's residence. Ares and Strife attacked Metropolis. With the Shield, no attack from the Supers could hurt him and additionally fed him more power. Hawkgirl finished researching the Shield and returned to the city to tell Wonder Woman of the Shield's weakness to Philia.
Wonder Woman declared she would do anything and sacrifice anything for her friends to ensure their survival then pointed out each of the reasons why she liked them. The Lasso of Truth, wrapped around her wrist, illuminated and surged in power. Thunder struck the Shield of Ares and chipped it. Ares and Strife abandoned the Shield and fled.
