The Green Lantern Corps are intergalactic heroes who patrol the universe and battle the forces of evil. They are each armed with a Green Lantern Ring that chooses them without any guidance from the rest of the Corps. It senses who will use it to spread its light and deem it worthy. Veteran members include Tomar-Re, K'ryssma, Apros, Kilowog, and Gallius Zed. Hal Jordan of Earth was chosen as a Green Lantern. He attended Super Hero High School in Metropolis then went to Oa, the Corps' planet headquarters, to finish his training. Jessica Cruz, another native of Earth, was chosen to be a Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. After two weeks of attending Super Hero High, Cruz got a summons for her official induction ceremony on Oa. The Corps were also eager to meet her. Zod, Faora, and Non, of Krypton, arrived on Oa and banished the Corps to the Phantom Zone. They were taken prisoner by the zone's criminals.
Jessica Cruz, Star Sapphire, Beast Boy, and Big Barda ventured into the Phantom Zone and freed the Corps. K'ryssma was surprised heroes came to their rescue. Gallius Zed was surprised to see a new Green Lantern and introduced himself. Cruz reciprocated and mentioned her summons. Zed whispered to Tomar-Re and asked if they summoned the new Sector 2814 Lantern. Tomar believed it was far too early into her tenure to expect her to be ready for the induction. K'ryssma declared there wasn't time for a ceremony with those "ruffians" taking Oa. Cruz realized the Kryptonians lied to them and Supergirl was in danger. They got into position and Space Cabbie reversed the Phantom Zone Projector to bring everyone back to outer space. Together, they set off for Oa. They converged on Oa with Batgirl's spaceship and began fighting the horde of Kryptonian terraformer robots. Tomar-Re, K'ryssma, and Galius Zed were impressed with Cruz' prowess on the battlefield and commended her in the aftermath. Galius Zed used Space Cabbie's Phantom Zone Projector to send General Zod, Faora, and Non to the Phantom Zone to serve their life sentence for crimes against the Green Lanterns.
