While Pamela Isley was recovering a hospital following an accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs field trip, Harleen Quinzel paid her a visit. She gave Isley a potted fern. Isley loved it and named it Fernanda. Quinzel was shocked to see Fernanda shaking Isley's hands and realized she had the power to manipulate plants.
