According to legend, Cerberus is a three-headed giant dog that guards the entrance to Hades. During Professor Minerva's dig on Themyscira, she found the Amulet of Harmonia, Lasso of Truth, and Claw of Deceit for Hippolyta. Barbara Ann Minvera, her daughter, touched the Lasso and Claw despite a warning not to and activated a magic curse placed on the relics to protect them. An illusion of Cerberus manifested and chased Minerva. Princess Diana came to her rescue and tussled with it. One of the heads grabbed her bracelet and threw her. Diana picked up the Lasso and used it on Cerberus. Unable to withstand its power, the Cerberus illusion dispersed. Diana confessed to Hippolyta she used the Lasso. Hippolyta declared her honesty and true heart only proved she should wield the Lasso. Diana promised to honor it and use it for good.
