In her childhood, Pamela Isley took part in a class field trip to S.T.A.R. Labs in Metropolis. She wandered off into a restricted zone to observe some plants unlike anything she had ever seen before. A mutated venus fly trap used for secret research sneaked up on Isley and attacked her. Isley dodged and kicked the plant but it bit her left arm. She collapsed and was found by Harleen Quinzel. Dr. Faulkner saw the fly trap and injected an experimental antidote into Isley. Isley regained consciousness days later and discovered she had the power to manipulate plants. A few years later, Poison Ivy took control of the same fly trap and commanded it to break down a secure door after S.T.A.R. Labs went into lockdown so she and Harley could escort four teenagers unwittingly recruited for a man-made super program. She named the fly trap Bud. It wrapped around Faulkner, transformed into a powerful brute named Rampage, while she tried to flee. It released after Wonder Woman wrapped the Lasso of Truth around her. Rampage continued to taunt Ivy so Bud wrapped around her mouth.
