Big Barda was a member of Apokolips' Female Furies. She is a skilled close quarters combatant and is armed with the Mega Rod. On her first time in space, the Furies were ordered to raid a fleet. The Furies' ship took a missile through the hull and almost bit the big one. After Granny Goodness, their leader, brought them to Earth, Big Barda easily defeated Supergirl with a blast of Kryptonite from her rod. Barda was about to strike her but Granny belayed her. Instead, Barda left the Kryptonite on the floor by Supergirl. Granny then empowered them with the Amethyst then took the school with a brainwashing frequency. Barda noticed the paintings in the office and asked if the students were allowed to make things of beauty. Granny thought they were a waste of time and had Barda, Stompa, and Artemiz keep post outside Principal Waller's office. Supergirl drew Barda away while Batgirl freed everyone with a De-Trancer. Supergirl led her through the Flight Track. Barda emerged covered in paint. Batgirl wrapped her up in a bola.

Barda and her comrades were sent to the Belle Reve Penitentiary and Juvenile Detention Center. Before she was tossed into the Boom Tube, Barda sneaked a Super Hero High brochure on the floor between her wrist and cuff. During Spring Break, Lashina attempted to free the Female Furies from Belle Reve. Frost and Katana were standing guard as part of a special assignment from Principal Waller after Lashina's plans were intercepted. Lashina placed an Agony Matrix on a prison guard named Brian and gave the supers two minutes to find him and save his life. Big Barda pounded on her cell to get Frost and Katana's attention. She claimed she knew how to disable to matrix but they suspected her intent. Barda admitted she liked Brian and he always gave her extra mashed potatoes. Katana sliced up the keypad to Barda's cell and freed her. While Barda and Katana went to work on saving Brian, Frost took on Lashina, Stompa, and Mad Harriet. Barda managed to free Brian but Lashina got away. Frost and Katana informed Waller of Barda's contribution.

Barda reformed and transferred from Apokolips Magnet to Super Hero High. She used to major in evil but put those bad days behind her to embrace the hero lifestyle. Darkseid had a zero tolerance for girls gone good and banished her from Apokolips for all time. Barda went to Super Hero High with whatever she had on her at the height of preparation for Hero of the Year. So she wouldn't be tardy on her first day, Barda spent Wednesday night looking where her classes were held. She checked her 8:30 class A.P. Weaponomics then her 9:30 Intro to Super Suits in Crazy Quilt's classroom. She was flagged as an intruder by Batgirl's Oracle program. Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Bumblebee, and Supergirl responded and attacked Barda. Barda dodged their attacks and attempted to call a truce. Wonder Woman stated she was going back to Belle Reve. Barda panicked and swing her Mega Rod. She accidentally broke the Wonder Shield. Principal Waller entered the room and explained Barda was a new student. She asked the girls to make her feel at home.

Wonder Woman fashioned a paper rose as an olive branch. The girls took Barda to her dorm room. Even though it was undecorated, Barda was in love with it. She attempted small talk and jokes but fell flat. The next day, Barda happened to walk past a meeting organized by Wonder Woman to schedule guard duty at the Amethyst. Lady Shiva took up a stance but Wonder Woman explained Barda was a student. Shiva remained suspicious and kept an eye on her. Wonder Woman assigned Barda to relieve Hawkgirl after her shift finished. Harley decided to take Barda on her tour of Super Hero High. Barda found Hawkgirl unconscious, knocked out after battle with Dark Opal. Later that day, Harley took Barda to the Capes & Cowls Cafe. While Barda was fighting in her sleep, a Shadow Demon stole the Mega Rod. It served as a component of Eclipso and Dark Opal's Scepter. On Saturday, Barda went on a walk but Shiva suspected she was trying to leave, an admission of guilt. Principal Waller dismissed Shiva and reminded her heroes served justice, not hunches.

Back outside, Barda noticed the flock of crows disturbed by Supergirl and Dark Opal's fight in the nearby forest. Barda ran to Supergirl's aid and punched him. Barda then raised her voice and yelled for help. Katana, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy arrived. The girls battled Opal and his Shadow Demons until Katana discovered their weakness was light. The Hero of the Year ceremony was broken up by the arrival of Eclipso and Dark Opal with their Scepter. Supergirl managed to destroy it with her heat vision. Barda recovered her Mega Rod and saved Shiva from several shadows. Barda declined Shiva owing her a favor and stated it's what friends do. Shiva was moved but Barda implored her to not tell anyone or she'd have to start going to birthday parties, hand out valentines, and help people move. In the post-Hero of the Year dinner at Kent Farm, Martha Kent's mashed potatoes were an instant hit with Big Barda. Jonathan Kent suggested to her to come over during the holidays when Martha went all out.

Martha liked that idea and invited both Barda and Lady Shiva to stay at the farm over the holiday break. Supergirl seconded the idea and recalled there was an extra bunk bed in the attic. They both accepted. They played Rock, Paper, Scissors for the top bunk. Barda was perplexed how Shiva won by beating her rock with paper. Some students still believed the saying, "Once a villain, always a villain," but Barda was determined to prove them wrong. She joined the Model United Planets Club and Citizens Helping Extraterrestrials Succeed Society (CHESS). Her CHESS buddy was Lady Shiva. After filming a segment for Lady Shiva's Hero of the Month reel, Barda went out on a girls night out with Shiva which turned out to be them fighting a gang of thugs in a street alley. Barda was voted "Bluntest Bludgeon" with her Mega Rod in the Super Hero High School Yearbook. Barda and Shiva accepted Supergirl's invite to spend the summer with her at the Kents in Smallville. Barda quickly called dibs on the top bunk and couldn't wait for more of Martha Kent's mashed potatoes.

Big Barda took to farm chores well and had fun doing them. Wonder Woman called Supergirl's phone but Barda accidentally dropped it in a pail of milk. Supergirl was too busy with chores anyway and taught the girls how to be gentle to chickens, respecting horses, leading sheep, and capturing ornery goats. Barda was shocked a horse dared to buck her. Halfway through the summer, Barda got the hang of milking Belle. Wonder Woman, Bumblebee, Katana, Beast Boy, and Batgirl suddenly teleported to Kent Farm with Hermes. They informed Supergirl, Barda, and Shiva about Ares and Strife's plan to invade Metropolis. Barda helped with fighting Ares but fell under Strife's spell of discord. Shiva and Barda fought each other until Wonder Woman defeated Ares. Big Barda didn't understand the exercises in Advanced Martial Arts and simply bashed everything. Wildcat assigned Katana to coach Barda. Barda thought her muscles and Mega Rod were enough but Katana contended ancient martial arts were superior.

The Double Dare twins dropped down with the stolen Weaponomics Cross Blaster Prototype. Barda couldn't land a punch on Aliki but rushed over to save Katana. She swung her Mega Rod and batted away the prototype. Margot tried to run but Barda grabbed her left arm and held on. The twins were tossed in the Batty Wagon. Katana admitted Barda didn't need martial arts and obliged to teach her leg sweep then swept Barda. She helped up Barda but was tossed. They continued to spar. Barda worked with Lady Shiva and Batgirl on the Mobile HQ for the shop class Mid-Terms. Barda worked on its armory. Just as Batgirl called it a night, the Mobile HQ picked up a crime alert. They set off on a test drive and encountered Perry the Parademon. Barda immediately recognized him and didn't think he was a threat. Barda correctly deduced Perry was scared and alone and just wanted to play. She later noticed his left ear was injured. After Shiva captured him with the net cannon, Barda stepped out and approached Perry. She promised to help him.

Barda adopted Perry as her pet. After he was outfitted with a cone around his neck, she played fetch with him. She reminded Shiva that everyone deserved a second chance. She scolded Perry after he returned with a tree instead of a stick. Barda made a trike for her vehicle assignment despite a motor being required. On the review day, she admitted to Doc Magnus she didn't know how to drive. Wonder Woman, Harley, and Batgirl volunteered to teach her. She gravitated towards Cyborg's Cybeast tank but he refused to let anyone drive it. Harley let her try her quadcycle but she hit the brake hard and sent Harley flying then forgot to set it in park and drifted away backwards. She couldn't balance on Batgirl's Batcycle and fell over. She crashed the Invisible Jet into the harbor waters instead of turning left. Barda concluded she was better suited for walking and happened upon the Cybeast on a rampage thanks to Beast Boy setting it to Destruction Mode by accident. Barda got the tank's attention then jumped down the hatch.

Barda remembered what the girls taught her and took control of the tank. The girls cheered her on but Cyborg still refused to give it to her. He instead offered to help her build her own. Barda forgot to set Cybeast to park and drifted in reverse into a car. Barda accompanied Jessica Cruz on her trip to Oa for her induction ceremony due to her experience in space travel. She helped check on the hyper-jump drive on Supergirl's rocket ship before the launch. Barda told Cruz about her first time in space (and how she almost bit it) but did little to calm her down. Before Barda would trigger their last hyper-jump, the girls heard the snoring of a hitch hiker. Once it was discovered to be Beast Boy, Supergirl and Barda returned to the controls. After accidentally jumping into the middle of an asteroid belt, Barda sent Sapphire and Lantern to clear a path. They searched Oa and couldn't find any Lanterns then they were attacked by Kryptonian Terraformer Robots. General Zod introduced himself then accused them of being Supergirl's captors.

Supergirl arrived, freed them, and cleared things up. Non took them to the New Krypton Visitors' Center then launched it into space. Barda examined the pod but couldn't find any controls to pilot it. She determined that while they were headed back to Earth, the pod lacked any hyper-jump boosters so the trip would take a thousand years. Luckily, they hit a Space Cab and agreed to a ride back to Earth. After Cruz admitted she was terrified to go into the Phantom Zone to save the other Green Lanterns, Big Barda admitted she was afraid Granny Goodness would trick her into going back to the Female Furies, losing her Mega Rod, and realizing too late that the toilet paper roll was empty. Barda was bummed the Phantom Zone was the least protected prison she ever seen. Prisoner #24602, a giant eyeball, chased after them. Barda tried hitting its side but it laughed her off. Barda flipped over 24602 and took a swing, smashing it in half. She was bummed to find the others already involved in a big fight with a mob of criminals.

Barda commended Cruz for taking out the remaining criminals in one move by reciting the Green Lantern oath. They freed the Lanterns and were transported back to outer space by Space Cabbie. While the Green Lanterns flew back to Oa, Space Cabbie followed with Sapphire, Beast Boy, and Big Barda in his cab. They landed and fought the Kryptonian terraformer robots. During the S.T.A.R. Labs incident in the spring, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Big Barda were with the Hero Ball team on an away game that went into overtime. Barda was hit by the willpower of the green light when Star Sapphire's ring cracked. She fought with Wonder Woman, who was hit by the fear of yellow light. Sapphire forced them into close contact to restore them to normal. Big Barda went to watch a roller derby match and provide moral support since she didn't know how to skate. Batgirl and Wonder Woman, unaware of her handicap, tried to recruit her but she declined. She realized they were playing the Female Furies. Mad Harriet teased her. Barda joined the team.

Batgirl came up with a strategy and asked Barda to block Speed Queen while she took care of the jamming. The match spilled out into the city after Speed Queen knocked Barda out of the building with one of her discs. Batgirl realized Barda didn't know how to skate and caught up to her at a construction site but the Furies made it into an obstacle course. Wonder Woman snagged Barda with her Lasso of Truth and they exited the site. Mad Harriet bumped Barda down a hill after they went in circles around a super hero statue. Barda was in danger of crashing into Belle Reve and releasing a cellblock's worth of criminals. Batgirl used her Bat Skates' mini-thrusters to catch up, deployed a parachute, then dropped Barda to Wonder Woman. The Furies descended down the hill. Barda threw her skates like a bola and snagged their legs. They fell to the curb at the bottom of the hill. Batgirl asked Barda if she was ready for round two.

Novels only For Liberty Belle's Natural Disaster Project, Batgirl and Big Barda chose taming storm systems. Poison Ivy was elated with Jason Woodrue, her new greenhouse assistant, because he helped put out a fire caused by Firefly by opening a dam. Big Barda, however, thought he was a snob. Barda fought against Queen Bee's Royal Army in Bialya's Honeycomb Hall. She batted the giant mutant bees with her Mega Rod.
