G.A.S.P. is Gorillas and Apes Seizing Power, a secret society founded by Gorilla Grodd, Gorilla Boss, and Monsieur Mallah. With the mandate to force the world to recognize and submit to their intellectual superiority, Grodd chose Gotham City as the keystone of their new empire. After amassing an army of gorillas and bending them to his will via the Mind Control Module, an invasion force was ready. Once Batman learned of the kidnappings, he left Gotham according to Grodd's plan and was captured. G.A.S.P. then invaded the city and imprisoned all humans in cages at the Gotham Zoo. They stripped Vixen of her Tantu Totem and removed nearly every animal they could to prevent B'Wana Beast from creating fusions. With G.A.S.P.'s Apetopia almost formed, B'Wana used his powers to help his allies escape and defeat the group. After the Bat Griffin destroyed the Module, G.A.S.P.'s army was reverted back to normal gorillas and apes.
