Janet Van Dorn was a straight-laced, by the book, District Attorney in Gotham City. Van Dorn took the position shortly after Harvey Dent's transformation into Two-Face. Van Dorn was bent on ridding Gotham of crime and corruption. She viewed Batman as the root of the problem, a source of vigilantism that was routinely warranted by the Gotham Police. Van Dorn also blamed Batman for creating the super villain fringe, as well. The inmates of Arkham Asylum staged a coup and took over briefly. In that time, they managed to kidnap both Batman and Van Dorn. A mock trial was conducted and she was forced to defend Batman. After cross-examining various criminals such as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, Van Dorn began to realized that Batman was not responsible at all. After control of the Asylum was re-established, Van Dorn promised that she would continue to try and clean up Gotham so a Batman would not be needed. Batman obliged.
