Professor Ivo was once one of the best scientists working for LexCorp in Metropolis. Ivo's specialty was in nanotechnology but his expertise resulted in a significant payroll. Over the years, he developed a heavy smoking habit and used cigarettes frequently. In the early 21st century, after Mercy Graves took over as CEO of LexCorp, Ivo was fired as part of a corporate-wide effort to save money and work lean. He accepted and retired to his modest estate outside of the city at 421 Briarwood in Mountain View. His home, just near a stream, provided the ideal seclusion to allow Ivo to continue his life's work. Months later, Ivo completed an advanced android he codenamed A.M.A.Z.O. but died before he could observe his success. Ivo's duplication program allowed A.M.A.Z.O. to evolve. Evolve into what is a moot point, such is Ivo's reason for perfecting such technology: an obsession with immortality and power, revenge, intrinsic or extrinsic satisfaction, or simply just lonliness. Nonetheless, as a precaution, Ivo built a bomb at the base of A.M.A.Z.O.'s brain.
Lex Luthor sought out Ivo's help with his condition and damaged warsuit but discovered his former employee's corpse. Luthor adopted A.M.A.Z.O. and attempted to set it against the Justice League but failed. He rigged Ivo's home to explode after being tipped off by Graves of the League's impending arrival. Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern John Stewart were able to save most of the home, his research, and unknowingly, his body. After the trio looked over the files and found Ivo, they set off back to Metropolis to find the android. After it gained J'onn Jonzz' telepathy, A.M.A.Z.O. dispatched Luthor and left Earth. The Justice League confiscated Ivo's research, including the A.M.A.Z.O. blueprints.
Some months later, the blueprints were utilized again by the Atom and Luthor to modify a cannon to alter A.M.A.Z.O.'s programming. However, it revealed it transcended that limitation a month ago leaving Luthor to reason with it. In the short time, Luthor used his photographic memory to memorize the blueprint. While the Cadmus Project and Justice League Unlimited came to blows against each other, Luthor used Ivo's design to create a second A.M.A.Z.O. body to inhabit and become a god. A nanocopy of Brainiac within Luthor also realized the importance of Ivo's creation and subtly influenced events, in hopes of transferring itself into it. Amanda Waller stepped in and disintegrated the android before the founding members of the League arrived to stop Luthor. Ultimately, Professor Ivo was responsible for creating one of the universe's most powerful beings.
