Professor Emile Hamilton is the director of STAR Labs. Hamilton is well renowned for his contributions to science, having won several Nobel Peace Prizes for creating ultra-futuristic technology (due in part to his close friendship with Superman). He often helped Superman solve incidents involving mysterious objects or devising space suits. Hamilton's life is tied in computers and laboratories, always being isolated from people. Hamilton leads an aloof life, sensitive to change. When Superman turned rogue, Hamilton was affected the most, living in fear, even after Superman was cleared of all charges.
Hamilton willingly sided with a shadow group to create a metahumans for the sake of defending the peace of the world. The underlying vision was to have some form of defense in case the Justice League ever went rogue. His creations included Doomsday, Galatea and the Ultimen. Hamilton's grand project culminated in the creation of a matured clone of Supergirl, whom he named Galatea, using a DNA sample he extracted from Supergirl. When Superman was brainwashed by Darkseid, both he and Supergirl were struck by a Kryptonite warhead. During an escape, Supergirl was badly injured. Superman forced Hamilton to help. He succeeded by using Kryptonite tipped instruments. He disregarded medical protocol and kept samples of Supergirl.
