On Earth-X, Vandal Savage was somehow able to take a Martian named J'onn J'onzz against his will and imprisoned him in his fortress. Savage amplified J'onn's telepathy to manipulate the enemies of the Fourth Reich, control the populace, and see into the future. Savage tortured J'onn, who he called his oracle, over and over until his mind finally collapsed inward and he was of no use anymore. He no longer knew who he was anymore, time had lost all meaning, and his only companion was pain. However, when the multiverse incident broke out, the thinning of the dimensional barriers allowed ten times ten million thoughts to pierce his mind like psychic spears. He called out to any god who would listen and begged for release of death. The thinning also made it possible for his mind and the mind of J'onn J'onzz in Earth-D to touch. It was something alien yet intimately familiar and in need of help.
The consciousness of the other J'onn awakened him from his dark slumber. Through him, the Oracle witnessed the multiversal catastrophe. He felt that J'onn's fear and frustration and decided to send out psychic tendrils and probed infinity in search of a solution. He discovered someone in the multiverse held the key to saving it. Close to death, he attempted to hold on and live a little until he could pass on his discovery for the sake of all living beings in the multiverse. Following an invasion of the fortress, the Freedom Fighters, Superman of Earth-D, Savage, and a Superman from another Earth were rocked by a psychic force sent out by the Oracle. While Metallo and Doomsday guarded Savage, the Supermen searched the fortress and discovered the Oracle imprisoned in a laboratory. They released him. He shapeshifted into a diminutive form while modulating his thoughts so they wouldn't feel the psychic echoes of his pain. Superman realized he was a Martian.
The Oracle was happy to feel a heart that radiated kindness and compassion and thanked him for the gift. He admitted if he could he would die happy then and now but there was someone he needed to see first. He pleaded with them to take him outside to the courtyard before he expired. They discovered the rest of Earth-D's Justice Alliance had arrived. Martian Manhunter of Earth-D realized the Oracle was Earth-X's J'onn J'onzz and he was helped lead him to Earth-X. The Oracle confirmed the current crisis allowed him to connect with him and look for a solution to the multiversal catastrophe. He transferred his findings to Martian Manhunter Earth-D's mind then died and melted into a puddle. Manhunter Earth-D was haunted by seeing himself die and feeling his consciousness waver like a flame and fade into eternal darkness. While Manhunter Earth-D sifted through the information, he sensed the alternate Superman's ally Wonder Woman in another universe and guided the Javelin to her. J'onn J'onzz later realized the solution Oracle found was Wonder Woman and the Life Equation.
